Hello, My name is Andy and I am excited to help you unlock your full potential in chess and become a strong player! I am the newest coach for my town's chess team who have went on to win national tournaments and represent my country in international tournaments as well. I have also been my school's chess club president for over 200 students for the past 2 years of high school. I plan on making educational videos on ideas and concepts in chess that most club-level and amateur-level players struggle with to help them improve on their journey.

I believe chess is a game for everyone. No matter how old or young, how new or seasoned a person is in this beautiful game. Teaching is a passion for me and I will always ensure my students become the best players they can be.

Playing Experience

I started playing chess when I was 4 years old but only started playing seriously when I was 13. I've played against strong players such as GM Daniel Naroditsky and GM Tuan Minh Le during my 5 years of playing the game seriously. I managed to make my state team and am currently pursuing my FIDE title. I have been coaching since 2023 and I enjoy reading chess literature and chess history to deepen my knowledge and connection with the game.

Teaching Method

I believe that the path to becoming an incredible chess player is through incredible coaching. I believe it's very important to tailor my coaching style based on every student's interests and long-term and short-term goals. As a coach, it's also very important to keep students accountable for not following their given plans and to ensure a student feels comfortable and communicate their feelings about their training.

I am a specialist in chess openings and have a very broad understanding of various different structures and styles so I can make repertoires that are fun and easy to learn for each student based on their style. I make plans and exercises for a student based on their strengths and weaknesses in either openings, endgames, or middlegame plans.

Some exercises include tactics training such as puzzles, opening lessons on their favorite openings, positional studies and understanding pawn structures, understanding plans by going over a student's favorite players' games, and of course, reviewing and analyzing a student's game.

Private lessons include an initial assessment where the instructor will determine the player's strengths and weaknesses, and then custom tailor a lesson plan to suit the player's needs.
